Eröffnung der temporären Installation von Elena Schilling und Saitabao Kaiyare in der Dauerausstellung „Wo ist Afrika?“

Ausgangspunkt ist ein keulenförmiges Objekt der Kikuyu, das sich seit 1903 in den Beständen des Linden-Museums befindet. Die Museumsdatenbank liefert dazu keine zusätzlichen Informationen – was viele Fragen auslöst: Was genau ist es und wozu diente es? Gibt es heute noch Menschen in Kenia, die es identifizieren können, und wie denken sie darüber, dass es im Depot einer deutschen Museumssammlung liegt? Die Filmschaffenden Elena Schilling und Saitabao Kaiyare begaben sich mit Hilfe von Augmented Reality und einer Filmkamera auf die Spuren des Objekts, um mehr zu erfahren. In ihrer Installation stellen sie ihr Vorgehen und Ausschnitte aus ihrem Film If Objects Could Speak (Deutschland/Kenia 2020) vor.

Die Veranstaltung findet auf Englisch statt.

Opening of the temporary installation by Elena Schilling and Saitabao Kaiyare in the permanent exhibition "Where is Africa?"

The starting point is a club-shaped object of the Kikuyu, which has been in the holdings of the Linden Museum since 1903. The museum database does not provide any additional information about it - which triggers many questions: What exactly is it and what was it used for? Are there still people in Kenya today who can identify it, and how do they feel about it being in the repository of a German museum collection? Using augmented reality and a film camera, filmmakers Elena Schilling and Saitabao Kaiyare set out on the object's trail to find out more. In their installation, they present their approach and excerpts from their film If Objects Could Speak (Germany/Kenya 2020).
