Merhaba Stuttgart

50 years of German-Turkish agreement on labour recruitment
05.06.2011 - 18.12.2011
50 years of German-Turkish town history: The exhibition is a cooperative project between the Linden-Museum Stuttgart, the Stadtmuseum Stuttgart and the Deutsch-Türkisches Forum Stuttgart, supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung.

The Turkish immigrants, who came to Stuttgart after the agreement on labour recruitment between Germany and Turkey in 1961, created profound changes in daily life. The exhibition “Merhaba Stuttgart” focuses on half a century of German-Turkish town history and four generations of Swabian-Turkish coexistence.
More than 100 interviews, which were conducted in collaboration with the Schillerschule and the Wirtschaftsgymnasium West, tell the stories of citizens of Stuttgart with Turkish roots. The keepsakes, little treasures and talismans which accompanied people on their trip, feature in the exhibition along with first purchases made for their new homes, and many other meaningful private objects and photographs. The exhibition refers to people, who set off from Turkey to “Ländle” and who went from being guests to citizens.
