Contemporary Art by Australian Aboriginal Artists

from the Peter W. Klein collection
04.12.2005 - 09.07.2006
The permanent exhibition of the traditional art and culture of the Aborigines meets a striking counterpart: With the help of 20 partly large-sized paintings (acrylic on canvas) the artists point out their strong relation to the dream time and sacred places, to the creative ancestors and song cycles, to the objects of their traditional life like spears, hairstrings, digging sticks and bowls.

The work of arts of the Peter W. Klein collection, which were painted between 1989 and 2005, prove that nevertheless this can go along with innovation and creativity.
The traditional dot-painting technique was replaced or improved by other individual techniques, rich colours deeply intensify the impression – and a tendency to a larger abstraction shows the strong reflection on the being and character of the creative ancestors, places and occurrences. The paintings of the contemporary artists, which appear almost meditative to the European viewer, are created from an insight view and however are intentional means of communication with the near and far outer world.
