The Linden-Museum traditionally presents a small exhibition each year to mark Women's World Day of
Prayer, an ecumenical celebration of all Christian religions. Each time the exhibition focuses on a
special nation and on this occasion South Africa has been selected.
On display from the Museum's
substantial collections will be the glassbead
jewellery of the Zulu women. The construction, the
way of wearing and the colour of each individual
piece is deeply significant to the identity of the
woman who is wearing it: age, social status, where she
comes from, her religion, her marital status are all
incorporated into the designs.
